The human body is made primarily of water. It is approximately seventy percent water. The body needs water to perform chemical reactions within the body. Keeping hydrated is essential for optimal health.

One of the largest organs in the body is the interstitial fluids which is the water around all the cells and tissue. It is like an ocean within us. Just as it is important to keep the Earth's ocean clean from pollution to protect sea life and the planet, it is also important to keep the fluids of the body clean. This fluid surrounds each cell and the fluid is essential to the health of the cell. If there is a lack of fluid or dirty fluid then cell malfunction can occur. This fluid helps to transport nutrients and wastes to and from the cells. Our bodies need plenty of fluid to perform these chemical reactions. How you hydrate your body is very important to overall health and preventing a diseased state within the body.

Water

If you are striving to optimize your health then drinking water for hydration is essential. Choosing water instead of processed sugary drinks is always the better choice. Since hydration is so critical to health, choosing filtered water that is clean and free of contaminates like fluoride, chlorine, pharmaceuticals and arsenic is important. Investing in a good filtration system and drinking clean water to provide adequate hydration is the best thing you can do for your health.

Fruit

Fruit is naturally hydrating. It has a high water content and it has vitamins and minerals in the perfect concentration needed by the human body. It is a nourishing way to hydrate yourself. Eating fruit with high water concentration such as watermelon, melons, grapes, citrus fruits and more is a great way to hydrate the body. Eating the whole fruit as nature intended is a best way to hydrate the body and get the full benefit of the fruit including its fiber and other elements.

How Much Should I Drink?

There are many different recommendations out there, but the average person needs between half to one ounces per pound of body weight. Some recommendations are between three liters and a gallon of water a day depending on body weight. The water content in your food can be counted toward your water intake. If you are eating fruit such as watermelon, soups or smoothies these have a high water content and can count toward your water intake and you will need less water to consume. It is always best to listen to your body and its signals. Your body gives signals for thirst and hunger. Listening to those cues and giving your body what it needs is the best way to gauge when to eat and drink. For optimal health, incorporating hydrating fruit and good quality water into your diet is one the best things you can do for yourself. Proper hydration will help the body detoxify and keep the fluids of the body clean. Cellular hydration is essential for cellular health and repair. Keeping hydrated is an important part of optimal health, energy and longevity.

Drink water first thing in the morning. Drinking at least two cups of water in the morning on an empty stomach is a great way to start your day. Hydrating the body in the morning will help stimulate digestion and help remove wastes from the body especially after the prior nights sleep of detoxification.

Add lemon or lime to your water. Lemon and lime are alkaline low sugar fruits. The minerals in lemons and limes are alkalizing to the body and cleansing. They help maintain proper ph of the body and have anticancer and healing benefits. Add these to your drinking water throughout the day.

Hydrate the body with fruit. Eating fruit for breakfast is the best way to start your day. It is hydrating and light on digestion. The simple sugars from fruit gives your body energy and the fiber will keep you full. Also, eat fruit throughout the day. Eat it for snacks and add it to your meals. Fruit goes great in a salad. Instead of eating one piece, you may need two or three pieces of fruit to satisfy your hunger. Don't worry about sugar or calories with fruit. Fruit is mainly water. Even a banana is seventy percent water.

Add nutrition to your water. Adding lemon or lime juice gives it a boost of nutrition. Adding berries, cucumber, herbs or even chia seeds to your water is a great way to add flavor, minerals, nutrients and fiber. Using frozen fruit can work just as well as fresh fruit.

Keep a water bottle or glass of water with you all day. Sip on it throughout the day. Prepare your water bottle in the morning to have ready to take with you for the day.
